Long Drive Concept


Introduction

Professional long drivers can average over 380 yards in competition, compared with 300 yard averages from the top PGA Tour and 200 yards for an average amateur. Some shots in competitions surpass 400 yards. The world record in a long drive competition is 539 yards by Scott Smith. The record distance achieved in The RE/MAX European Long Drive Championship is 474 yards by Englishman Joe Miller in September 2005. Fast swingers can swing their club heads at over 150 mph, well beyond the 85 mph average for an amateur. They train for strength, flexibility, and speed and often perform corporate exhibitions for money, exhibiting a variety of trick shots.
Contrary to popular belief, the better long drivers usually tend to be scratch players, sometimes skilled enough to play on the PGA Tour.

Concept

We at FusionExcel together with JD427 are launching the Asian leg of the world long drive championships. We have decided to launch the first series in Malaysia.

For 2008 we are running 4 qualifying events in throughout Malaysia, starting in Penang followed by Johor and 2 qualifying events in KL. The Grand Final will be held in conjunction with the 2nd KL qualifiers in Kuala Lumpur.

The event concept has been created by the title sponsor FusionExcel and their main sports spokesperson, Jean Daniels, who competed in the Re/Max Long Drive tour for many years. The event is sanctioned by the MGA, PGA, LDA and Malaysian tourism board. 

Our concept is to use a golf coarse and not a driving range. We plan to use one hole where we set up our Long drive Shute. The driving range or warm up will be set up for golfers to warm up and try all the latest drivers. Golfers not only get to compete in the long drive event but in other events such as a putting competition. The top qualifiers will get to compete in the grand final.

The event is being sponsored by FusionExcel who has many thousands of golf members using their product (Quantum Pendant, Bracelet and Flask). Some of the current and past World Long Drive Champions are wearing the Quantum Pendant including Scott Smith, Lance Reader and Jean Daniels. Many other well known sports personalities in Malaysia and throughout the world are also using the product. Full Schedule of Events

This inaugural FusionExcel Long Drive Challenge is a series of 4 qualifying tournaments in major cities throughout Malaysia. It will be held weekly from the 18th October finishing at the Grand Final in Kuala Lumpur on the 5th of November.

The tournament is open to all golfers of any age or nationality that would like to have a try at hitting the ball as far as they can.
 
There is an 'Open' division for the major prize money of RM50000 and prizes.
Other divisions will include Seniors (Age 45+), Womens and Juniors (Age 15-18). Prizes will be awarded for winners of these divisions.
The event is open to all participants of any age and nationality.

The main emphasis for the event is to find Malaysia’s Longest Driver. Cash prices will only be for the open division. RM50000 worth of prizes will be available for the other divisions.

The Winners and finalists will be invited to the FusionExcel Gala Dinner on the 15th November. 1000 people are expected to attend.

Travelling Golf Fair and Clearance Sale

Together with the long drive event we will also have a country wide equipment clearance sale. Each venue is set up as a mini golf fare where marquee’s will be erected for sponsors to display their products.
